The heat pump is the future. But no one is waiting for challenging maintenance, large units on barn roofs and complex acoustic calculations. The HydroTop is revolutionizing the market: the system is installed superfast under the roof, is easy to maintain from the inside and meets the applicable noise standard as standard. Not for nothing is there great interest in it from abroad.
The mass appearance of large units for heat pumps on roofs of barns and storerooms was an eyesore for DHPS founder Wilhard Oldengarm. It was one of the reasons for developing the HydroTop in 2010. A system that is placed directly under the roof of the house and is almost invisible from the outside. "All those units on barn roofs mean you have to bury pipes in gardens, pull them over facades and through homes, and maintenance takes place outside in all weathers. It is much more efficient to place the heat pump where you usually find central heating boilers: directly under the roof. But in such a way that you don't need an aerial platform to fix any malfunction."
Lightning-fast installation
The HydroTop is DHPS' "in-roof system" whose outer part - the patented ventilation hood - protrudes only ten to fifteen centimeters above the roof. The unit itself sits directly under the roof in a fully airtight and insulated housing with vibration dampers. The super-fast installation makes the system very attractive to property developers, builders and housing associations. "You put a crane down once, which then installs several heat pumps in one go," Oldengarm said. "That takes a maximum of ten minutes per house. We have had large construction companies from England visit us who were open-mouthed at this." The HydroTop is also an attractive option for renovation projects.
Unique BCRG seal of approval
Since the development of the first HydroTop in 2010, the system has continued to evolve into a state-of-the-art product with great ease of installation. Made in-house from fire-resistant material that is fully recyclable. Moreover, the HydroTop - in combination with the two Panasonic air-water heat pumps most commonly used in series construction - falls within the noise standards tightened in 2021 as standard. This has been tested and declared by the Bureau of Control Registration Equivalence (BCRG). "If this declaration is included with the building application for ground-level homes, a calculation is not necessary," says DHPS product manager Gert Jongsma. "That's nice, because that calculation is quite complex for many installers, so the results are not always accurate or the process is outsourced externally. That can be costly and time-consuming." DHPS is the first and only supplier in the Netherlands that can provide this guarantee. Of course, the HydroTop also has the BCRG quality certificates for space heating and domestic hot water generation.
Durable and fire safe
Advantages of the HydroTop are not only its quick installation and guaranteed compliance with the noise standard, but also its longer lifespan. Oldengarm: "The HydroTop sits directly under the roof, in a sheltered spot. That promotes longevity. Moreover, the mechanic can always access it, come rain or shine. So on the service side, too, it's a huge plus. Finally, the refrigerant content is small because the distance between the indoor and outdoor units is very short. Important, because the now common R32 is an environmentally unfriendly gas. Until we all switch to natural gases such as propane orCO2, we want to use as little of it as possible. But even after that switch, the HydroTop has an important advantage: the material is flame-extinguishing, which is important when using propane, for example. In the HydroTop that may and can be used safely."
Ambitions? There are plenty of them. Oldengarm: "We are growing fast, the ambition is fifty percent per quarter. This is possible, thanks in part to the great interest from abroad. It really is a beautiful product. But I am especially proud of the people who make it."
Lightning-fast installation
DHPS has two systems in its range for sloping roof slopes, including the in-roof type the HydroTop. The outer part of this - the patented ventilation hood - protrudes only ten to fifteen centimeters above the roof. The unit itself sits directly under the roof in a fully airtight and insulated housing, with insulation and vibration dampers which can be hung in the roof at lightning speed. Because the heat pump is safely and easily accessible through a large hatch in the house, service work can easily be carried out.
Unique quality mark
In consultation with DHPS, the BCRG has established an independent Board of Experts. This board tested the HydroTop (in combination with the two Panasonic air-water heat pumps most commonly used in series construction), resulting in a declaration that this combination falls within the noise standards as standard. If this statement is included with the building application for ground-level homes, a calculation is not required.
DHPS is the first and only supplier in the Netherlands that can provide this guarantee. Naturally, the HydroTop also has the BCRG quality declarations for space heating and tap water generation. There is now interest in the system from abroad.
